The SeaPertls

Established 2019

Hi! We're the SeaPertls, named for Seattle Pertls and sea turtles!

We're a brother and sister team who have a lot of big dreams. In fact, our motto is "getting sh!t done," and that's exactly what we do!

Sydney, the older and wiser sibling, is a professional artist who specializes in figure and portrait drawing. Her work has been shown across the country, published, and is in more than a few public and private art collections. You can see her artwork at She has also started her own art gallery, which successfully revitalized and brought art to downtown in Appleton, WI, as well as a non-profit organization which bring donated second hand textbooks to rural school children in the Ghanaian rain forest, both of which are currently still running, although she relinquished control in both companies when she moved back to her favorite place in the world - Seattle!

Miles, the younger and far more chill sibling, is a professional ballet dancer with Pacific Northwest Ballet.  He won the Grand Prix at the YAGP competition in 2007, and then spent ten years in Europe dancing professionally at Stuttgart Ballet and at Het Nationale Ballet. He is also an esteemed young choreographer whose pieces have premiered across the globe! These include pieces created for Noverre (Stuttgart, Germany), New Moves (Amsterdam, Netherlands), Balletworks (Isle of Wight, England), Danza di Estate (Gubbio, Italy), Outside/In (Seattle), and Seattle International Dance Festival.

Once Miles permanently returned to Seattle in 2016, the two combined forces with the aim of bringing dance and art to the city -- with a more specific goal of highlighting the incredible local talent present in their city instead of outsourcing work to more famous names. It is said that it is always easier to become famous in a city that isn't your own, but SeaPertls is trying to change that, one art show, ballet, and production at a time!

They officially registered SeaPertls as a company in 2019. Their first big production was Wash of Gray which premiered for a two week run at Pacific Northwest Ballet in November 2019. It featured the choreography of Miles Pertl; the artwork of three artists, Sydney M. Pertl, Maxfield Woodring, and Eli Lara for the sets; the music of Jherek Bischoff; costumes by Pat Stovall, and the video editing of Reed Nakayama for the moving artwork backdrop. It ran in conjunction with Skid Road Gallery, a pop up show that Sydney and Miles founded and managed in order to shine the spot light on local, low-income artists. With over $32,000 in art sales alone, the show was in incredible success, which paired well with the critical acclaim received from their love-letter-to-the-city, full length ballet.

With many more projects and commissions on the way, you can count on the knowledge that the SeaPertls are out there, having fun, and like we said... gettin' sh!t done!
